Durability is a fundamental design consideration for every building. Choosing high-performance engineered systems is often more economical and environmentally friendly over the long term because sturdier materials will require less maintenance and repair. Today’s abuse-resistant systems also allow faster building occupancy, weigh less and provide easier mechanical access than many traditional materials.

Performance Reuirments

Building design must consider the purpose of a structure and the type of environment it will house to determine the appropriate level of abuse resistance to build in. Abuse-resistance systems are available to resist up to three levels of damage;
- Surface or edge damage from abrasion and/or indentation
- Penetration through to the wall cavity or ceiling from sharp or blunt impact
- Security breach through the entire assembly from ballistics or forced entry.
